Stage 2 Breast Cancer
Stage 2 breast cancer is broken down into 2 stage groupings, A and B. Each one is reviewed separately below.
Stage 2A Breast Cancer
The following TNM stages represent the stage 2A breast cancer grouping:
T0 N1 M0
T1 N1 M0
T2 N0 M0
In general, the above TNM stages can be summarized below as:
· The tumor is not found, up to 3 lymph nodes are involved and there is no metastasis to distant parts of the body
· The tumor is less than 2 centimeters in size, up to 3 lymph nodes are involved and / or the mammary nodes are involved, and there is no metastasis to distant parts of the body
· The tumor is bigger than 2 centimeters in size, the lymph nodes are not involved, and there is no spread to any other parts of the body.
This stage may also be described as early breast cancer. The survival rate for stage 2A breast cancer is about 90 to 95%.
Stage 2B Breast Cancer
The following TNM stages represent the stage 2B breast cancer grouping:
T2 N1 M0
T3 N0 M0
In general, the above TNM stages can be summarized below as:
· The tumor is bigger than 2 centimeters in size, up to 3 lymph nodes are involved and / or the mammary nodes are involved, and there is no metastasis to distant parts of the body
· The tumor is bigger than 3 centimeters in size, the lymph nodes are not involved, and there is no spread to any other parts of the body.
This stage may also be described as early breast cancer. The survival rate for stage 2A breast cancer is about 80%.
I can’t emphasis this enough:
EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER IS THE BEST WAY TO IMPROVE SURVIVAL!!!!
It is entirely possible for you to detect stage 2 breast cancer or sooner. The average size of a tumor that is found by regular self breast exams is about 2 cm. The average size of a lump detected by mammogram is a little over 1 cm. Using all the screening methods available to you could make the difference.
Remember your
Self Breast Exams
Clinical Breast Exams
Mammograms!!!
This is a lot of information. Please remember that I am not a doctor or health care provider. This information is being provided after hours upon hours of reading from multiple sources in an effort to give you a broad scope of information and hopefully better understanding about breast cancer. It is not intended to diagnosis or treat breast cancer.
Treatments for breast cancer are different, pending the different characteristics that the tumor may have, the health of an individual with breast cancer, and many other factors. Click here for types of
treatments that may be used for stage 2 breast cancer.
Truly reading all of the numbers, breast cancer statistics, and about any stage of breast cancer can seem overwhelming. Below are some words of encouragement for you, or for someone you may know who is in the breast cancer battle.
